Just like the iconic Snowy River, the Snowy River Echo (established in 2004 by Carol Page, former editor of the Byron Bay Echo, and now run by locals, Rob and Carole Thomas, since April 2006) has become an institution of the Snowy region and is now in its ninth year of publication.
The Snowy River Echo is the only free, independent, monthly newspaper in the NSW Snowy Mountains region and its trademark format (A4, Black & White) is easily recognisable by all.
The Snowy River Echo prides itself on its quality, honest and broad-spectrum reporting of local issues, which combined with quality photography and a variety of regular monthly columns, makes it a widely read and respected newspaper.
Apart from reporting the news that matter to our community, there’s something to please all our readers, from the young to the old: from music to poetry, computer and gardening tips, astronomy and interior design, to fishing and spiritual news - as well as trivia and word search, etc.
We have the widest local distribution and cover all the towns of the Snowy River Shire (Adaminaby, Berridale, Cooma, Dalgety, Jindabyne, Perisher (in winter) and Thredbo + Cooma.
Additional copies are sent to our subscribers and many more copies are handed on to friends and relatives throughout Australia and even overseas. Copies of past issues of the Snowy River Echo are held at both the National Library and NSW State Library.
While people have commented that the Echo is a monthly window into our local history, we’d also like to think it networks in bringing the community together.
