The Baptist denomination is a network of local churches (Baptist Union of churches), held together by common belief and practice. In the year 2000, the Baptist churches of New Zealand agreed to the mission statement {Growing Healthy Churches{. It was first of all a restating of the priority of the work of the local church. At the national level it meant a new model, staff and role for the denomination.
Behind the statement of ‘Growing Healthy Churches’ is the understanding that the denomination exists to serve the churches, not the churches serving the denomination. The denomination exists to empower and resource churches for Health & Growth. Our vision is of churches up and down this nation healthy and growing.
The church’s primary task is to do the work of mission, based on our evangelical understanding of proclaiming the gospel in word, deed and sign to a sinful world.
