What are Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) and Medical Malpractice Insurance and how are the classes different:Professional Indemnity Insurance covers an individuals or companies professional neglect. The policy will respond to (subject to terms) the legal costs to defend an allegation of professional neglect and should it be proved that there was indeed an error, omission or professional neglect of some kind the Professional Indemnity Insurance policy will also respond to any damages awarded against the business or person. Medical Malpractice Insurance also responds in the same way as a Professional Indemnity Insurance policy, it will cover the legal cost to defend an allegation against the person or business and also any damages awarded up to the level of indemnity chosen. However, Medical Malpractice Insurance policies tend to be as you would expect related to medical types of risks/ professionals rather than say architects or engineers. The policy also responds to professions where there is a physical type of activity ‘hands on’, for example a Medical Malpractice Insurance would be appropriate to the following type of risks rather than a pure Professional Indemnity Insurance policy:
