Midtown Music was founded in 1987 by Biddeford High School chums Mike Travers and Ken Cote. Ken had rented the existing site for his very successful Photography Studio. He was approached by Mike with the idea to convert the space into a record store. At the time, there was not a single record store in Biddeford and the idea was welcomed into the community by a flood of retail music sales!The next two years would see a downturn for Mike and Ken, whereas, two more record stores opened in much more visible locations.Enter Nick Noiseux, a local musician coming off 8 successful years as a nightclub touring rocker. Nick was looking to settle back into his home town community and began by giving electric guitar, acoustic guitar and bass guitar lessons in the Midtown Music office space. Mike soon offered Nick a fulltime position managing the store. Seizing the opportunity to have fun, Nick decorated the store and turned it into the "teenage boy - room - of - his - dreams" with posters, promotional materials and musical instruments.
