Howdy! We are Hardy and Elaine Purvis, and we own and operate Big Oaks Kennel. In 1999, we left careers as a meeting planner and commercial real estate broker to open our kennel here in Buda, Texas. Hardy had his own kennel of bird dogs at our home for several years before we both decided to pursue a new direction. After searching for several years for a suitable business and living location, we found our current home and property. I set to work remodeling the vintage farm house while Hardy started building the kennel.We had always let our dogs run loose on a one acre tract at our former home. During the evening and inclement weather they had their own covered runs. When we opened our kennel, we continued the same practice with our paying guests. Dogs were let out in the morning and returned to their runs during the middle of the day, then let out again in the late afternoon before being returned to their runs for their evening meal and bed time. This practice made for a quieter kennel and correspondingly happier guests.
