She saw firsthand how the legal system can serve as a positive force to help families escape abusive and sometimes life-threatening situations, and move forward with their lives.Joan also learned that the adversarial nature of the justice system can sometimes stand in the way of a positive outcome in family law cases. Many attorneys believe, or want you to believe, that the aggressive, pit-bull approach, where the goal is to rip the other side’s case to shreds, always brings the best results for their clients. This may be true on television, but real life is more complex.
