In 1954 Don started his career in plumbing while serving in the United States Army. at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He received training in plumbing and was shipped out to Korea.In Korea Don was attached to a Water Distribution Company in charge of water purification and distribution to numerous battalions for portable water. When Don finished his tour of duty in the Armed Forces in 1956 he made application to Chicago Plumber{s Local Union 130 and was initiated. Don served his apprenticeship in plumbing with Acme Plumbing and Heating Company, a combination shop of two trades. Don went from apprentice plumber to licensed journeyman plumber, shop foreman Superintendent and ran the company in the owner{s absence.
