Highland Christian Church was organized in 1888. by a group of 55 people who had been meeting together for Bible study. After the signing of the covenant, the first church building was dedicated in March of 1890. The faith of Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) members remained strong, enduring a fire and restoration of the original church building, and the repossession of the building by the bank during the silver panic. Holding strong, this band of Christians continued worshipping together until a new building at 34th and Bryant was completed. The congregation then built and moved into a building at 35th and Federal Blvd in 1964.
