Le Mulet Rouge® (French for “the red mule”) is located east of Fiddletown in northern Amador County. It takes its name from the road on which it is located and the road gets its name from Red Mule Ranch where red mules once roamed. Two of the mules are on the Le Mulet Rouge® label. The mules came to Fiddletown from Hollywood where they starred as the breakaway team in western movies. Broken of the habit of “bolting” the mules were used to pull a wagon across the United States during the 1976 bicentennial wagon train trek. We have been told that the west wouldn’t have been settled without mules. Horses weren’t strong enough to pull wagons and donkeys were too small to carry large loads. So we are proud to honor the animal that helped settle the west! The rest of our label shows Le Mulet Rouge® winery and vineyard. Since we are not zoned for a tasting room in Fiddletown, you will find our wines at Sutter Creek Wine Tasting, our exclusive distributor.
