After spending eight years working in the green industry both in the private sector and for the state of Maryland, Marty Kelly started Kelly Landscaping in 1980. The company gradually grew from a commercial lawn maintenance business to add landscape construction and a small nursery operation. To diversify even further, in 1987 a 90-inch tree spade was purchased and the company began selling and moving large mature trees and shrubs.As our landscape construction business grew, so did our need for more quality plant material. We started growing a wide variety of trees and shrubs so we could provide our customers with locally grown quality plant material that would transplant well and thrive in their landscape. In the early 90’s a 25-acre farm was purchased and a few years later Kelly Tree Farm became a reality. We purchased two more tree spades as our expertise and reputation in the tree moving business spread throughout Washington- Metro area. Our satisfied customers are our advertisement and our business has been built mostly on word of mouth referrals. Our customer list is long and includes not only homeowners, local and federal government sites, schools and commercial sites, but also many landscape contractors in the area.
