I looked so forward to going to home economics in Jr. High and High School. I took every cooking and sewing class Westwood High School offered. Once I learned the basics of food, creativity was next. I love a challenge. Whether it was vegetarian meals, sugar free wedding cakes, or a Spam dinner that can be done in 30 minutes, I was up for it. I have also had the privilege of being trained under Kathy Scott, Dianne Gruenburg, Nicolas Lodge and Laure’l Silverberg!I loved going to the Homemaking Arts Building at the State Fair, but didn’t start entering until after I was married. For the most part I wanted to see where my cooking ranked. The first items I entered were an apple pie and flour tortillas. I knew I was competing against grandmas who had cooked for decades, both took blue ribbons and I was hooked. I started entering the sponsor’s contests about 15 years ago and have done well. One of my original recipes using Fleishman’s yeast not only placed 1st in Arizona but 1st at national level.
