Boys Town Shelter of Grand Island provides a safe environment for girls and boys in crisis, including runaway, homeless, court-placed or abused children. Highly trained professionals at the center provide treatment and care for up to 18 girls and boys ages 10 to 18. The shelter provides a safe setting in which children work towards achieving individual treatment goals and learn life skills and problem-solving techniques. Emphasis is placed on family reunification, and the shelter works with each youth and family to develop recommendations for aftercare services when the child leaves the shelter. On average, children stay in a short-term facility about two weeks.
