Milano Bakery.In 1915, Mario DeBenedetti began baking hearty Italian breads in Lockport, IL using family recipes he brought over from his homeland. He called his bakery Milano, after the Italian city he remembered from his youth. Demand for his fresh-baked breads grew quickly, and in 1926 the Milano Bakery moved into a new building at 427 S. Chicago St. in Joliet, IL.Today, his children and grandchildren carry on the tradition in that same location, turning out delicious, hearth-baked breads and rolls that are available in grocery stores and restaurants throughout Chicagoland.The DeBenedetti family also operates a retail shop offering cakes, cookies, and other sweets made from scratch everyday.
