The history of Anthony’s Seafood started back in 1956 by Anthony T. Bucolo, and was located on Spring Wharf in Newport, Rhode Island. It started as a wholesale lobster company that over the next few years moved to Waite’s Wharf in Newport. Anthony and his dedicated employees turned the new location into a successful seafood production plant followed by a fresh fish retail outlet. In the 1980’s, the Bucolo’s entered the restaurant business with a one of a kind floating restaurant – the SS Newport. In 1987 Anthony Bucolo retired and sold Waite’s Wharf and Anthony’s Seafood. However in 1989 Anthony brought his sons Stephen and Michael, who had worked under him for many years back to Waite’s Wharf and re-opened Anthony’ Seafood and the Shore Dinner Hall. For the next eight years the Bucolo’s and Waite’s Wharf became a local destination and a popular tourist spot.In 1998 Stephen and Michael decided to implement a change due to unfavorable lease agreements and the need to build on their strongest asset, the local community. The Bucolo’s moved to Middletown and opened Anthony’s Seafood market and restaurant on Aquidneck Avenue – on Memorial Day weekend 1998. The acceptance by the Island’s communities was overwhelming and has made all their efforts worthwhile. The retail market showcases over 28 feet of fresh, high quality seafood. They maintain an extensive selection of fresh and prepared favorites, such as jumbo stuffed shrimp and sole, clams casino, chowders, stuffies and much more.Anthony’s restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and is open daily. Its Eat-in or Take-out menu resembles that the former Shore Dinner hall and continues to pride itself on high quality seafood dishes. You will find everything from their Seaworthy starters and fried classics to baked, grilled, and boiled favorites. The Bucolo’s and their staff are here to do everything possible to justify the confidence shown by their customers over the years.
