Haney{s Photography was founded by our dad, James, in 1977. When he started the business it was under the name {Portraits by James.{ As young kids we used to visit his studio in the Brookdale Mall over by the current southside Moorhead Sunmart. We got our start in the actual labor of tending and checking the backup equipment when our father moved the business into our home in the early 80{s. He started by letting us work the front desk, and answer a few phone calls, during his Saturday hours of operation 9a-noon. Greeting clients and handing them the order our dad worked so hard to achieve in the camera, was now our job to get to them. We still honor those storefront hours- we would say as a tribute to those early days, although the time we are at a wedding or other event reaches far outside that window. In 1985 he moved from our basement store to our current location. We would shoot weddings on weekends with our dad through the late 80{s & early 90{s, then he let us start to impress him with using his techniques, and then adding a little more each time we would get out alone. He taught us all the fundamentals of lighting in the studio, outside anywhere, and some quick thinking rules that will always work when you{re in a pinch! We think his hair turned grey once he saw his rules became ignored, and images would still turn out defeating many basic principles.
