Assumption Church is a Roman Catholic parish located in the River North area of Chicago. Founded in 1881 to minister to the needs of Italian immigrants who had settled in the area, Assumption now serves a diverse community of neighborhood residents, downtown workers, historic parishioners, tourists, and intentional parishioners from all over the Chicago area who have come to appreciate our beautiful worship space, friendly atmosphere, and uplifting liturgies. From the beginning Assumption has been staffed by the Order of Friar Servants of Mary, a religious community founded in Italy in the thirteenth century. The title "Assumption" refers to the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus and mother of God, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory at the end of her earthly life.
