The Association is more of more than 1,400 local boards and associations of REALTORS nationwide that comprise the National Association of REALTORS. Prior to 1948 there was in Montgomery, Alabama an organization know as The Montgomery Real Estate & Insurance Exchange which was composed of firms dealing with real estate only and firms dealing only in insurance and other firms dealing in both. Oftentimes, it was difficult to assemble a quorum at general meetings when issues concerned one group and not the other.
