Pontin del Roza Winery is celebrating thirty years in the Washington State wine industry. What began as winemaker Scott Pontin{s high school FFA project has culminated into a 30 year legacy of estate winemaking. Pontin del Roza translates roughly in Italian to mean "Pontin family farm on the Roza". The winery uses the grapes grown only from "the Roza", an area of south-facing slopes in north Prosser.Pontin del Roza translates roughly in Italian to mean "Pontin (Ponteen) family on the Roza". A pioneering spirit brought some of the Pontin family to the Yakima Valley over 65 years ago. Nesto Pontin{s father, Angelo, immigrated to the Valley planting terraced vineyards just as his family had done for centuries in Italy. Today Pontin del Roza is a thriving estate winery with over 100 acres of 10 varietals including: Riesling, Malbec, Syrah, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère and Petit Verdot. With production at around 4,500 cases per year, many grapes are still sold to other wine producers, as we desire to remain a small, family winery.
