Holy Temple Church of God in Christ was founded and organized under the leadership of Bishop C.C. Cox. The first services were held in a small church with one entrance and one window. The history of Holy Temple began as a little church located across the bridge, or across the ditch (as so many people say) at 765 North Street, now known as Kuenzli Street. The property and building was owned by a Sister Kid Komen (sp) who also had her home in the back. The church building was wooden, with a basement that was built out of rock. Holy Temple rented the basement because another church held services upstairs. After that church left, Holy Temple was able to move to the upstairs portion of the building, and continued to rent until they built a new edifice.
