This weekend we begin the third week of our penitential season of Lent. This Sunday and the following two Sundays are the "Scrutinies." It is a special time for those preparing for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and first Eucharist for intensive reflection on their spiritual readiness. It is also a time for all of us to be preparing for the renewal of our baptismal vows come Easter. We will have ample opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation in following weeks. And, we give a continual reminder that all Catholics age 14 and older must abstain from eating meat on the Fridays of Lent. One of the traditional and special devotions of Lent are the Stations of the Cross, which we have on Fridays of Lent at 7:00 p.m. in the church.
