My name is Jaimee Dean. Mary Lou was my grandmother and the first woman in my family to be diagnosed with breast cancer. In August of 2005 my mom was diagnosed as well and we began a journey that many women face. Surgery, chemotherapy treatments, radiation and doctors visits can all make a woman feel like her whole world has changed. As we searched for products necessary to help my mom return to her lifestyle, I began to feel like something better could be offered to the women of this community. My mom and I have always liked to shop! We felt like even though she had breast cancer, she should be able to enjoyshopping for bras and intimate apparel just as before her diagnosis. I also began to realize how important they way she felt affected her physical health. Going through the treatments can be hard enough; she should at least feel comfortable in her wig and bra! I began to research what was available to women after being diagnosed with cancer and I realized there are really great products being made. I wanted to make sure that the women of our community had everything available to them that I wanted for my mom. As a registered nurse, I understand the physical and emotional changes that come with cancer diagnosis. I have also been trained as a mastectomy fitter, custom prosthesis fitter and wig stylist. In October 2006 we opened our doors and I have been blessed by the response we’ve received. I am so thankful for the support and help we’ve been given. I pray that Mary Lou’s Garden will be a positive and enjoyable place for all who enter. My promise is to continue to provide caring service and the best products available to the women of this community.
