AccuCare Provides Award Winning In Home Health Care
Kim explains their story with joy, hope and support:
It started in early 2020 when I had to go into medical treatment for Covid. I decided to start working at AccuCare because the customers there were great and the job was rewarding. However, I also knew that 1 on 1 with a person who was sick could be stressful, especially trying to be there for them through their symptoms.
On a given day, I might meet a patient who is super calm and cool, and I will say something to the effect, “I feel your illness and care for you as if you were my family member. I’m so glad I’m here.” That simple act shows patients that they are not alone and I enjoy being not just their caretaker but their friend. The staff at AccuCare are always so kind when I’m sick and ready to hear that thanks.
The trends in 2020 and 2021 were mostly in the 2 extremes: 1) medication which made me drowsy and irritable, and 2) medical tech. I needed a compromise — a device for people with falls and medical equipment that I could use first aid with. I started looking at products that assist with falls, apply pressure to prevent potential fractures. I scratched my head a bit thinking I didn’t need that much assistive equipment, just a sort of hefty bluetooth back brace and a neck belt, until someone pointed out that EMS was looking for that exact product.
I began researching what EMS needed, and I went through several vendors for a sturdier, stronger product than I was looking for. Finally, it hit me — there were crutches and canes, but there was no product to help people move their upper body and help prevent falls. I knew I wanted to push this product forward as much as I could.
When I found Blue Spruce, I knew this product was for me and I ordered one to try within a week. I did falls on and off with the device. One fall was out of the blue where I was unloading a package from a moving van. My partner pulled me out of the way and prevented me from falling over. I used this product the same day going on about 20 more falls including the one that resulted in a cracked wrist, but I avoided falls and bruises. Most law enforcement officers and EMS use this device. The TIAA Wide Angle canes are high tech like baby stilts.
