COVID new variant | BF.7 Variant
There is news about a new COVID variant outbreak in China and other parts of the world. Here’s everything that you need to know about it.
What are COVID variants?
COVID-19 variants come with differences in RNA build compared to the covid virus but their characteristics are mostly similar. There are 4 major types of variants – Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron.
In April 2021, we had a big break from the delta variant. In January 2022, we had a break of Omicron subvariants called BA-1 and BA-2. The subvariant of omicron will have slight changes when compared to the previous omicron variant due to changes in the coding. This subvariant will be recognized differently by the body’s immune system.
Currently, these omicron subvariants have undergone mutation to produce new omicron subvariants BF.7. This has been causing major infections in China.
Is this infection going to be dangerous?
Covid variant BF-7 is a subvariant of omicron. Our population has been vaccinated against the virus and we have also endured an omicron infection already.
Though in India, we do not have a major infection, the B-7 Covid variant had been present in our population. It did not cause any major effects till now.
Also, WHO has not recommended covid BF.7 variant to be a variant of concern. It is considered a minor insignificant variant. Therefore you need not worry too much about the infection but keep yourself updated on the recent progressions.
Covid new variant Precautions
Here are some precautions to avoid any kind of infection.
Follow hand hygiene. After touching potentially infectious surfaces, use hand sanitizer. Wear masks while going out in crowded places. If you hadn’t received your vaccine, it is time to do so. People who are eligible for booster doses should get it.
If you notice symptoms like fever, sore throat, or running nose, isolate yourself at home. These precautions can help us easily get through this subvariant as we did before.
Kauvery Hospital
Our population has immunity against Covid virus which means that you needn’t worry about Covid variant infections. But follow basic precautions to avoid even minor inconveniences.
