Signs Which Indicate Drywall Termite Infestation

Termites are quite sneaky in their approach since they usually eat the walls inside out. This makes the signs hard to find but a professional termite inspector will know where to look. 

Also, there are different signs for different types of termites. For example, the subterranean termites tend to fill the small holes they make on the drywalls using soil while the Drywood termites do not. The termite inspectors are trained to know the difference between each infestation and suggest a suitable treatment method. 

1. Pin-Sized Holes on the Walls

If you notice pin-sized holes on your drywalls, wallpaper and wooden framing, then it is time to call a trusted termite company. Drywood termites tend to live in the walls but they need what are called exit holes. These small holes are indications of termites living inside your walls. 

2. Thin Lines on the Drywall

This is one of the most obvious signs of termite infestation on the walls. Termites living inside the walls tend to move around the area by burrowing their way through. They mostly move inside the walls and this can cause the paint to blister and bubble. Sometimes these tiny networks of tunnels can also be spotted on the surface of the drywall.

3. Mud Tubes at the Base of the Walls

Subterranean termites need moisture to survive and hence use mud tubes to travel to their nests and other parts of the walls. These mud tubes serve as a safe passage from predators. 

While it might be hard to notice mud tubes, when you do find one, call a termite exterminator rather than trying to get rid of it on your own. 

4. Termite Droppings and Termite Swarmers

Termite droppings near drywalls is ignored by most people but it is a sign of serious infestation. Also, if you notice termite swarmers flying near your drywall or find dropped termite wings, then there is a huge chance of a termite colony sharing your home with you.

5. Termite Dust at the Base of the Walls

If you spot tiny piles of dry powder dust on the floor near the walls, you should be thinking of a possible termite infestation. This powder dust type of material is known as frass and it consists of the excreta of termites. 

6. Windows and Doors Are Hard to Close

Termites in the walls can move around and damage the wooden components on the walls like windows and doors. This can make these components loosen over time which in turn makes them hard to close and open. 

But if you are experiencing this problem during autumn or winter, it can also be due to temperature changes. Make sure to schedule regular termite inspections to stay alert. 

7. Carpenter Ants Near the Walls

Carpenter ants prey on termites and hence are attracted to places of termite infestation. If you notice ants near the walls frequently, then it is time to check the area for termites. 

8. Clicking Sounds in the Wall

When there is a severe termite infestation, you might hear faint clicking sounds from within the wall when the house is absolutely silent. You can even use a stethoscope to hear those sounds.
