Summer Skincare Tips for Healthy Skin
With summer comes the excitement of beach parties and fun. Sure, summer is fun but sun damage is not! With the shift in temperature, it is also time to change your skincare routine. A proper summer skincare routine will help you prevent breakouts and maintain healthy and glowing skin. Here are some tips from our skin rejuvenation clinic experts for enjoying your summer sun-damage-free.
Cut Down on the Moisturizer
In summer, along with the change in the temperature, the humidity also changes. Summer is more humid and this makes our skin oily. Do not avoid moisturizing completely; instead, lessen the amount that you use.
A moisturizer helps regenerate the damaged outermost layer of the skin and thus is important for every season. If you have oily skin, choose gel-based moisturizers and also cleanse your skin more often. If you have dry skin, then choose a moisturizer with a thicker consistency. Switching to a moisturizer that also contains SPF would help for summer.
Sunscreen Should Never Be Out of Reach
Though it might seem obvious, we want to emphasize this again since it is the most fundamental skincare tip for summer. Choose a sunscreen with SPF above 30 and apply it every time you go out in the sun. Reapply it every couple of hours.
Cover all exposed skin areas – face, neck, hands, feet and ears. Without sunscreen, the sun damage can be severe as 80% of skincare problems are caused by sun damage.
Switch to a Gentler Skincare Routine
You might have opted for a heavy skincare routine for winter but for summer it should be lightweight. The skin naturally becomes oily and heavy products will only clog pores and lead to acne.
Replace the heavy cleanser, face wash, moisturizer and other products with lighter ones. Gel-based foaming cleansers would be ideal for people with oily skin while people with dry skin can choose non-foaming cleansers.
Set an Alarm for Exfoliation
Summer is a time for exfoliation, especially for people with oily skin. Slowly increase the frequency of exfoliation in summer to twice or thrice per week. Proper exfoliation opens up blocked pores and gets rid of oils that cause acne.
During summer, our lips can get chapped and flaky. Gentle exfoliation of lips can remove excess dead cells and give the lips a smooth texture.
Use Makeup with SPF
Lighter makeup works for summer since heavy makeup can prevent the skin from breathing. Replace your heavy foundations and powder-based makeup products with lighter ones and check whether the products are non-comedogenic.
Also, never forgo sunscreen while wearing makeup. You might not want to apply sunscreen on your perfectly done makeup but this is an essential layer of protection that you can never skip. You can use sunscreen powders for a touch-up.

Add Vitamin C to Your List
Vitamin C serum helps in brightening the skin tone and also prevents the appearance of age lines and wrinkles. Apply the vitamin C serum after the cleanser and before the moisturizer. Then apply sunscreen to avoid sun damage. You can gradually introduce vitamin C serum into your summer skincare routine.
Avoid Bathing Often
It might be tempting to get into your bathtub and stay there when the temperature reaches its peak point. But this will take away the naturally produced oils and lead to dry and patchy skin. Keep your showers short and choose cold water showers over hot ones.
Also, do not wash your face often. Washing your face twice a day during summer is recommended. You can use a mild foaming cleanser to remove the dirt and grime from the pores.
Sun Protective Clothing and Accessories Are a Must
Stay in the shade if possible but all of us do have to go out in the sun. Dress sun smart with wide-brimmed hats and UV-400 glasses since squinting the eyes too hard can cause fine lines around the eyes. Also, choose woven fabrics for summer use.
Check on Your Skin
Sun damage can cause severe effects on your skin. Keep a lookout for dry and itchy skin, sunspots and fine lines. These are the starting signs of aging and it is best to take care of them at the earliest. If you notice any of these signs, make sure you visit a professional skin rejuvenation clinic. Treatments are available and starting them at an early stage is the best choice.
