Top 5 Family Day Trips Around Perth
Perth's beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle has attracted tourists from all around the world but as a local I still find myself wondering ‘what is there to do in Perth?’ every weekend. I've compiled a few locations to check out with your family that will not take more than a day.
Araluen botanical garden
Situated approximately 35kms south-east of Perth and hidden at the base of the hills is WA’s luscious botanical garden Araluen. Famous for its tulip garden during springtime, Araluen is currently in full bloom making it the perfect picnic or BBQ hotspot for family and friends.
Serpentine Falls
Located 60kms south of Perth is Serpentine National Park which inhabits one of Perth’s most iconic waterfalls. The Serpentine Falls is most spectacular towards the end of winter and breaking into spring after Perth has received sufficient rain fall. During this period the waterfall is a gushing rapid provide a picturesque scene out of a magazine. As we move into the warmer months of summer the falls are the perfect place to take a dip and cool down if we want to avoid the crowded sandy beaches. The park is open daily from 8:30am to 5pm and features a great picnic area as well as a 16km trail that takes you up to the top of the falls.
The Swan Valley Wineries, Breweries, Cheese and Chocolate Factories
If you are looking for some wineries and don’t have the time to trek it down to Margaret River then Swan Valley is the perfect place to be. Swan Valley is WA’s oldest wine region and produces some of the best wines WA has to offer and is less than an hour away from Perth CBD. The valley features award-winning wineries, breweries, distilleries, restaurants, and cafes as well as mega golf for a great family day out.
Lancelin pristine dunes
If we are looking for something more adventurous then Lancelin will be the spot for you. Lancelin is a small little town located approximately an hour and thirty minutes North of Perth and is famously known for its pristine white dunes and beaches. The dunes are open to the public for 4WD’s, dirt bikes, sandboarding and dune buggies. If you aren’t that keen in getting copious amounts of sand in your undies then there is the option of hitting the beaches for some kite surfing, boating, swimming or dinner at the local tavern with breathtaking views of the beach.
Yanchep National Park
Hidden on the outskirts of Perth and approximately 50kms north of the Perth CBD is Yanchep National Park. Park comes well equipped with BBQ facilities, picnic areas overlooking the lake and offer a wide range of activities making it the perfect option for a family outing. There is something for everyone here.
