Totally happy today with my trip to Aladdin Gourmet - ran in to get some haloumi on my way to BevMo - they had everything I needed and more that I didn't, including frozen Kunafe - the man at the register was very nice - I mentioned that my favorite Kunafe man moved to Ohio - to which he replied, "We make Kunafe here!" oh my goodness I was so excited. He shouted in Arabic to the man in the deli area to give me a piece - IT WAS DELICIOUS! I have my new Kunafe place! I was so sad when the last guy moved to Ohio and now I have my prayers answered - FRESH KUNAFE and still within a mile of my home! Next time I will get some of their fresh food on display - it looked and smelled delicious in there. Can't wait to visit them again! Meanwhile, I will eat my frozen Kunafe they carried, and will visit Aladdin again soon for my fresh Kunafe fix!

We ordered a variety of kabobs, including Kubideh, chicken, and vegetables. The food was excellent, although we had to wait an extra 20 minutes (35-40 minutes in total) for it to get ready. Hopefully this is not a typical occurrence so I gave 5/5 for now.

Gourmet foods usually cost more than regular foods because of the care that goes into making them. Chefs who specialize in making gourmet dishes often spend many hours perfecting their recipes and sourcing the best ingredients.

What are popular Mediterranean dishes?

Some popular Mediterranean dishes include hummus, falafel, tabbouleh, and dolma (stuffed grape leaves). These dishes are typically made with fresh ingredients and are healthy and flavorful. Mediterranean cuisine is often referred to as the "culinary bridge" between East and West, as it incorporates both Eastern and Western flavors and techniques. What is Falafel

Falafel is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas. It is popular in the Middle East and North Africa. Falafel is usually served as a snack, or as a component of a meze or an entrée.

The falafel balls are made of patties of soaked, ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Green onion, parsley, cilantro, garlic, and spices are also added to the mixture before shaping into balls or patties. They are then deep-fried in hot oil until golden brown.

Falafel can be eaten on its own as a snack, or with bread and tahini sauce.

What is the difference between meat and halal meat?

The word “halal” means permissible in Arabic, and refers to anything that is allowed under Islamic law. So, in terms of food, it refers to anything that is considered acceptable for Muslims to eat.

There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to determining what is halal and what isn’t. Firstly, all foods are considered halal unless there is evidence to the contrary. This means that, unless something is specifically listed as being haram (forbidden), it is automatically permissible.

Secondly, there are certain animal products which are automatically halal – such as eggs and Dairy products – as long as they come from animals that were themselves fed a halal diet.

What are dolmas, and what are the key ingredients used in their preparation?

Dolmas, also known as stuffed grape leaves, are a traditional dish enjoyed in various Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines. They are typically made by wrapping grape leaves around a flavorful filling, creating a bite-sized, nutritious snack or appetizer. The word "dolma" itself comes from the Turkish verb "dolmak," which means "to fill."

The key ingredients in dolmas include fresh or preserved grape leaves and a filling that can vary widely. A common vegetarian filling consists of rice mixed with a blend of herbs and spices such as dill, mint, parsley, and allspice. Often, onions, pine nuts, and currants are added for extra flavor and texture. For non-vegetarian versions, ground meat such as lamb or beef is often mixed with the rice and spices.

These ingredients are carefully rolled into the grape leaves, then typically simmered in a broth of lemon juice, olive oil, and water until tender. This method of preparation infuses the dolmas with a rich, tangy flavor, making them a beloved dish across many cultures.

What is halal meat and how is it different from regular meat?

Halal meat is meat that adheres to Islamic dietary laws, ensuring it is permissible for consumption by Muslims. The halal process requires that the animal be slaughtered by a Muslim who invokes the name of Allah (God) during the act. The animal's throat is swiftly cut to sever the jugular vein, carotid artery, and windpipe, ensuring a quick and humane death. Additionally, the blood must be thoroughly drained from the carcass, as consuming blood is forbidden in Islam.

In contrast, regular meat, often referred to as non-halal, does not follow these specific religious guidelines. The slaughtering methods can vary, including mechanical stunning or different slaughtering techniques, and do not necessarily involve religious invocations. Additionally, non-halal meat might not adhere to the same stringent blood drainage requirements. These differences in preparation and religious adherence distinguish halal meat from regular meat, catering to the dietary and spiritual needs of Muslims.
